* MOOR PICTURES ON WWW.FOTOMAGIC.CH Bei Longreach haben wir den ominösen Breitengrad des Steinbocks überquert. Hier beginnen die Tropen. Erst sind es die trockenen Tropen und es ist ja Winter. Es ist angenehm warm und meist schönes Wetter. Aber dann kommen wir aber langsam in die feuchten Tropen und obwohl jetzt Winter und Trockenzeit ist, regnet und nieselt es fast jeden Tag.  Wir haben Luft Feuchtigkeit bis zu 99 % und 28 C. Zum ersten Mal müssen wir unsere gewaschene Wäsche im Tumbler trocknen. Bei jeder Bewegung läuft der Schweiss in Bächen an uns herunter. Schuld sei La Nina sagen die Einheimischen und entschuldigen sich immer wieder für das unüblich schlechte Wetter.

Wir werden mehr als entschädigt durch den vielfältigen Regenwald. Hier in Cooktown haben wir das Erste Mal Fuchsschwanz Palmen und Zapfenzieher Pandanus gesehen. Sie kommen auch nur hier vor. Die ersten Bäume beginnen zu blühen, bald kommt der Frühling. Knallgelbe Kapokblüten verzieren die leeren Äste und im Dorf blühen grosse gelb-weisse Blüten an Magnolienartigen Bäumen, Fantastisch.

Tropics
We have crossed the tropic of Capricorn at Longreach and are now officially in the Tropics. At first we are in the dry tropics and, since it is winter, it is pleasantly balmy and mostly sunny. But then, we slowly enter the wet tropics. Even though it is dry season, it rains or drizzles almost every day. We have a relative humidity of up to 99 % and 28 C. For the first time we have to dry our laundry in the dryer. Sweat runs off us in rivulets. Locals blame La Nina and apologise for the unusually bad weather.

On the positive side, we enjoy a very lush, green and dense rainforest. We have seen foxtail palms and corkscrew pandanus for the first time. They only grow here in Cooktown. The first trees are starting to flower, it will be spring soon. Golden Yellow flowers adorn the barren branches of the Kapoktrees and creamy white and yellow blooms show on a sort of Magnolia trees. Fantastic.
