Wie der Narransee entstanden ist

Eines Tages, vor langer Zeit, kam ein grosses Krokodil ins Dorf unweit von Lightning Ridge und frass die Frau eines Kriegers. Als der Krieger nach Hause kam verfolgte er sofort das Krokodil. Das Krokodil machte tiefe Spuren auf der FluchtÜberall wo das Krokodil durchrannte, begann Wasser in seinen Spuren zu fliessen. Das Krokodil war schlau und versuchte den Krieger auszutricksen. Der Krieger suchte das Krokodil und überall wo er es suchte entstand ein kleiner Hügelkamm. Endlich hatte er das Krokodil eingeholt und warf seinen mächtigen Speer nach ihm. Er traf das Krokodil genau ins Auge. Das Krokodil schlug wild um sich und fällte so alle Bäume im Umkreis bevor es starb und grub den Naransee. Der Krieger öffnete das Krokodil und nahm seine Frau aus dem Bauch. Sie war schwer verletzt. Er legte sie auf einen Ameisenhaufen damit die Ameisen die Wunden säubern konnten. Dabei wurde die Frau wieder lebendig und gesund. Der Krieger nahm sie an die Hand und sie lebten glücklich bis an ihr Lebensende.

How the Narran lake was made
One day, a long time ago, a huge crocodile came to a village not far from Lightning Ridge and swallowed the wife of a warrior. When the warrior came home and saw that his wife was missing, he immediatgely started chasing the crocodile. Wherever it went, the crocodile made a channel with his body which filled with water. The crocodile tried to trick the warrior, but he was much too smart, Wherever he looked for the crocodile a little stony ridge grew up. Finally he reached the crocodile and threw his large spear right into the eye of the crocodile. The crocodile bucked into the air and swished with his tail, sweeping all the trees away and making a big plain. This filled with water and Lake Narran was created. The warrior cut open the crocodile and took his wife out. He laid her on an anthill so that the ants could clean the terrible wounds of his wife. After a while the wife got up and was alive again. The warrior took her by the hand and they lived happily ever after.
